Hey everyone,
I just got into Ross, and I'm looking for some electives to take (since Econ310 conflicted with my BBA core classes). I was thinking of taking Econ398, which is simply labeled "Strategy." Since Ross students also have to take a course their senior year called "Strategy," would it be a waste to take this class? The course materials are not very similar, but would it be a wise choice to take the class since their course titles are the same?

Finally, any other electives you'd recommend?

Go Blue!

They are totally different courses. Econ 398 is game theory (Nash equilibrium, etc) whereas strategy in the bba program is more like a management class

as for other electives, take courses that satisfy your foreign language, humanities, social and natural science requirements. Starting your junior year you can rake business electives, so get done with your other requirements this year. As for what courses, you decide if you want to take a humanities or social science course, based on your interests.

Thanks! Also, I know that one of the distribution requirements is NS and/or MSA. Do they count the Math 115 credit as MSA? I wouldn’t expect them to, since it’d be like counting Econ101 as a SS credit. Do you know?

I don’t think they will count Math 115 as MSA or Econ 101 as SS, because those two courses are considered pre-requisites for applying to Ross.

The website clearly states (on page 13) Econ 101 isn’t considered as a SS requirement, but doesn’t say anything about Math 115. I’m assuming Math 115 doesn’t count towards MSA either, since its also another course that freshman must take before applying to Ross.

What’s the difference between Econ 398 and SI 563?

No, I meant what does SI stand for and what department does it belong to? (Just as Econ 398 is in LSA and stands for Strategy).

School of Information, in the search thing it shows up as Information.

[SI MSI Degree: Course Description](http://www.si.umich.edu/courses/description.htm?passCID=485)

This is a 1.5 credit course whereas Econ 398 is 4 credits. I think SI 563 teaches game theory in a way that is more applicable to information professions/IT, whereas Econ 398 is a more theoretical approach to strategy.
