What are some of the better LACs for economics majors...I plan on going on to graduate school to get an MBA, but would like to spend my undergrad years at a smaller school with greater attention paid to students.

brand, Economics is a popular major at many LACs. Without knowing what you're looking for in environment or selectivity, I'd suggest you take a look at Williams and Amherst. These schools are especially accomplished at getting their graduates into top MBA programs and for accessibility to Wall Street internships. Williams president is an economist himself and teaches a class or two every year. Personal attention is what the LAC is all about.

Thanks momrath...I actually have Williams, Amhert, Swat, and Wesleyan on my list as of now, but I guess I am looking for LACs that are a little easier to get into that also offer great econ programs...Any ideas?

definitely check into

claremont-mckenna

thanks huskem i'll check them out

In attending a top 10 business school, the LACs that were most represented there were Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin, Middlebury, Colgate, Colby, Bates, Hamilton, Trinity, Connecticut College, Bucknell.

If you are female, Wellesley

undergrad econ is a pretty straightforward major; you don't need a jillion dollars worth of lab equipment to be a player.

My advice is pick a LAC that you want to attend, paying no attention to its rank or rep for econ. And besides, many students end up changing their major anyway. Even if you devote a lot of time to picking depts based on econ rep, you might end up switching anyway! One caveat -- check with current students to make sure the school isn't known for being particularly BAD for econ, but I doubt you'll find many schools with that problem unless there's some infighting or other trouble in the dept; it just isn't that hard to run a good undergrad econ program.

gellino - thanks for that...i was interested in trinity but wasn't sure if it was going to be worth 40k a year, but if the students there are getting to go where they want, i'll definitely be taking another look.

You will get much more relevant suggestions with your stats and financial situation at least briefly outlined...

ahh good idea :)

4.0 GPA with honors courses

Vice Prez Student Govt, Vice Prez Honors Program, Press Reporter Business Club, Member Phi Theta Kappa, Member top vocal choir, singer sending in some demos.

And if you didn't catch it yet, I'm at a CC and will be transferring out. So that'll have an impact on your recommendations, since some schools like Middlebury are insanely hard to transfer to (1 out of 249 last year)...

Might add Holy Cross-school has produced many Fortune500 CEO's.
