econ major entry level expectations

Hi all,

I am curious as to what the experts think I should expect from my entry level job.

I'm currently a senior at Indiana University majoring in Economics (BA) with a minor in PolySci and a minor in Business (graduating after 4 years). I have a 3.2 GPA and should be able to raise that to a 3.3 by graduation. I have worked for Kraft and had an internship in accounting at an international, multibillion dollar company. I studied abroad at an excellent program in Germany (IES-European Union) when I was a junior.

Economics is proving to be kind of hard to get started with as it seems many employers don't go out of their way to recruit us Econ majors directly.

I am basically looking at finance/logistics/actuarial sciences/operations/analysis, etc (don't think I have the credentials to start out in IB).

Any opinions on what kind of job I should expect and more importantly, what kind of starting salary I should expect? I currently expect around $50k/yr, but have not yet had success in finding such opportunities.

I think econ majors can expect $40-50K a year depending on location. In Indiana, I would expect the salary to be at the lower spectrum.
You are looking at the correct types of jobs that hire econ majors (finance/logistics/actuarial sciences/operations/analysis).

I’m actually a econ major as well, but at Rutgers. I’m planning on going into commercial banking, instead of IB, due to the flexibility of work-life balance in CB. Starting a family, and watching kids grow up is mor important to me than 100+ hour weeks and 7 figure salaries. If you’re willing to relocate to NYC, opportunities may be a little better, although it can get very competitive around here.
