Hi guys, any recommendations for some of the Econ major upper div courses? Which ones are relatively easier? I am taking both 100a and 100b and also declaring this sem.
Also, what's the difference bt Econ 140 and 141? ( I only took 16 series and stat 20, which one is more doable for me?)

On the easier side are those history-based class, but it depends on whether you like doing lots of computations/probability theory, or whether you want to read lots and lots of papers. I’ve heard that Econ 134 with the Romers are superb, but at the same time the hardest course out of all those history-based courses.

Econ 141 to 140 is the same as Econ 101A/B to Econ 100A/B. If you are only comfortable with Math 16 series and Stat 20, I’d recommend doing 140. That said, even 140 requires a lot of Stat 134’s material, so you might want to consider doing that first, or self-study the material.

I highly recommend Economics C171 (Economic Development with Alain de Janvry). Chill professor, memorization-based exams, short homeworks with lowest scores dropped, knowledgeable GSIs, and interesting material.

Thanks Sparkyboy—I prefer some courses that don’t require much reading and writing. Could you help me out?

Weebly. Thanks…it sounds doable…any other recommendations? I’m trying to come up w/ a schedule here

Ballsy move for taking both 100a and 100b at the same time. I’m taking Econ 113 w/ Olney and it’s been pretty chill (workload and concepts) so far. Once we have to write the 10-page term paper though, we’ll see.

Both of the 100/101 series class at the same time is not that hard… It’s just like 2 CS technicals at the same time, but probably even less busy work.

@OP: Econ 113 above is a good suggestion, and Olney is legendary. I’ve heard good (and bad) things about Chinese Economy (161/162 sth I think), where your grades are basically based on one midterm and one final, both of which are essay-based, and the prof gives you a review sheet consists of all the possible questions before each test.

Econ 136 is another class that may meet your interest. It covers material very similar to UGBA 103, but gear more towards Econ. Some intensive math, but nothing compared to 101A (at least in the first couple of weeks this semester)

Another suggestion is whatever class Edward Miguel is teaching. Reading is intensive, but his class is very good. International Trade with Kamala is also pretty chill, I’ve heard. I’m not an Econ major so don’t quote me on any of these, lol. I’m just taking them mostly for fun and self-enrichment :)

thanks guys how are econ 155(urban econ) and 115(world economy in 20th century)?
