Hi everyone,

So after my first semester of junior year, I've figured out what I'm interested in academically and what exactly I want from my college music experience. I'm doing college visits in SoCal in less than two weeks, so I'd like to know if there are any schools around LA that I should be visiting other than USC and UCLA.

I'm interested in a double major/dual degree/whatever with econ (focus on finance, not on the academic side) and vocal music. I'm not concerned with the BM vs BA since I know that most BM programs will be heavily classical, which isn't what I'm looking for, and the BA in music will be easier to schedule. What I want from the music side is lots of performance opportunities in a wide variety of styles (jazz, MT, contemporary, in addition to classical) in addition to having opportunities to explore music production and songwriting and hopefully make industry connections. It seems to me that USC is a good fit for me with these goals in mind, at least on the music side; I'm not sure how well that will work if my other major would be in Marshall.

Whether I end up making some headway in music or go the finance route, I'm not planning to go to grad school anytime soon after my undergrad, so I really want to get this right. I've realized that while I'm definitely going to be taking loads of music courses in college, the formal degree isn't as important to me as the experience, connections, and personal development I'll get out of it. Are there specific things you think I should do at my visits (people I should talk to, classes to sit in on, etc) or other schools in the LA area that I should think about?

Thanks!
