Econ Theory vs. Econ Policy

Basically I'm a college freshman and I just declared a double major in Econ (theory concentration) and Comp Sci. I understand that theory deals more with math and that policy focuses more on the concepts, but in the real world what is the difference. I guess what I'm asking, is what are the career choices/job markets like for each of these degrees?

Also, does anyone know how the joint-degree in Econ and Comp Sci fits in to the job market? My adviser recommended it but I didn't get that much information from him.

Oh, and I go to NYU CAS if that matters

Thanks!

While I didn’t major in econ, I have taken a number of undergrand and graduate level econ classes. I actually understood the concepts better by going through the rigorous (more mathematical) approach of the theory.

As for CS, it is a practical skill that complements any major in the job market. I noticed on the NYU site that math is an alternative suggested as a double major. If I had to guess, you are not planning of going for a PhD so that is why your advisor suggested CS.
