<p>I will be starting college as a freshman this fall at UF and I have been considering majoring in either economics or finance. I've been told by some that finance is the better major because it's more applicable than economics. Despite this, I've looked all over the internet and it seems as though the prospects for econ majors are great. But as I look through job searches it seems like most jobs require a degree in either finance or accounting. So is an economics major useless?</p>
<p>An degree in economics is not useless. To the contrary, students recruited by top NYC investment banks usually majored in economics.</p>
<p>There's usually some overlap between finance and accounting programs and economics. You may find you could double major within a reasonable time frame.</p>
<p>If you're going to U.F. you should major in finance. I believe the economics department there is not very strong. You might want to look into this a little bit more though.</p>
<p>Look into the combined Master's in Finance program UF offers. 4 Years, bachelor's and master's in finance. </p>
