My school requires that I have an ACA compliant insurance, but they all seem expensive. Anyone know an economical one? Thanks.
It’s expensive, but there are a variety of options. ACA-compliant has a few meanings, so is it “minimum essential coverage” or coverage with all the essential health benefits? You might want to ask them what benefits they require be covered. If the Student Health insurance plan is not an option, what else will they accept?
Health insurance is local, so if you can say your State I may be able to give you some resources.
It’s minimum essential coverage. Basically I must have an ACA-compliant insurance plan to waive the default insurance plan of the school, which costs 3000 a year.
The school is in Colorado. Thanks for your help!
The school’s plan may be your best option.
Besides the school’s plan, your only other source of ACA-compliant plans may be the individual market. You can browse qualifying CO insurance plans here: https://prd.connectforhealthco.com/individual/
Odds are that you can find cheaper options than your school’s coverage, but they may not provide the coverage you need. For example, the cheapest “catastrophic” plans have an annual deductible of $7,150. You can incur that much in a single ER visit, e.g. for a broken bone.
