<p>Anybody else taking this class in the fall? </p>
<p>Any opinions about this class? Hard, easy, fun, hot, not, lots of work, interesting, hard to understand, etc?</p>
<p>Took it in winter with Hellwig. Lots of math. Book is useless if your professor gives great lecture notes. The best way to study is to do practice problems, but you'll have to know the concepts too.</p>

<p>Hellwig was alright. I didnt do as well as I could on the midterm (and still came out with a B cuz of the curve). An A is possible if you really know the material, as in you can do all the different types of problems in your sleep. Hellwig had homeworks too, some of which were tricky. If you go to the TAs/professor for some hints, and work together with a friend/study group, you could probably ace those too.</p>
<p>Overall I got a B+. An A- was within reach, if I tried harder on the homeworks and studied better for the midterm.</p>
<p>I think your teacher is McDevitt. I had him for 102 and he is a good teacher. His lectures are very clear. If he uses the same style of teaching as he did for 102, you would basically study the practice problems he gives you. His tests mirror the practice problems in wording, format, etc. He just throws in a few curves here and there to see if you really know what you are talking about. For 102, the book was useless, but I'm not sure about 101. If you are still using the Nicholson book, I really hope he gives similar styled tests/notes for 101 because I did not like the Nicholson book.</p>
<p>Econ 11 was average difficulty. I had professor Hellwig, who is an excellent lecturer. I got a B on the homeworks, a B on the midterm, a B on the final, and a B as my final grade. Sounds about right. :rolleyes:</p>

<p>Go to <a href="http://www.directory.ucla.edu%5B/url%5D">http://www.directory.ucla.edu</a> and search for the professor. Shoot him/her an email and go from there. If you're impatient, you can search "ECON 11 Hellwig UCLA" and see if anything comes up in terms of old syllabuses, class websites, pdf files, and so forth.</p>

<p>If he teaches 11 like he did 102, the study questions should be everything. I used the book only to clarify or to get the bigger picture when I couldn't figure such things out from his lectures. </p>
<p>The most difficult part of the test would be the multiple choice section. I think that made up like 40% of our midterm if you got one wrong, you basically fell 5% (8 multiple choice). I got a 75% (B+) on the first midterm because I lost most of my points on 3 multiple choice questions. The essay/problem section is going to appear very similar to his study questions, with a few changes. He may ask another question or change up a question to see if you know what to do in a slightly different situation.</p>

<p>Yeah, I was nervous too, but after a day or two, you'll realize whats up and everything will seem like clockwork.</p>
