I know Rhodes is a great school. Specifically, my son is interested in Economics/Business and Political Science. Can anyone with knowledge of those departments give us their thoughts on those? Thanks!

Economics is great. For about four years I’ve had economics students working with me as research associates and they’ve all been both incredible students and highly complementary of the econ program. One has gone on to a consulting career, two are pursuing their Ph.D.s in economics (one at Texas A&M and the other at CalTech), and three are still here working with me. The econ/business faculty are great, it’s a good curriculum, and the students come out well prepared.

I’m not as personally familiar with political science, but by all appearances it is wonderful as well. One of my friends who graduated a year ahead of me majored in poli sci. She became one of (if not the) youngest female chiefs of staff ever in congress. Marcus Pohlman is one of the poli sci professors, and he is a huge figure in Mock Trial. He’s coached 4 national championship teams at Rhodes, and the Cornell invitational tournament is named in his honor.

Thanks! I appreciate the info!

If you have any specific questions about the business department, please let me know.

Starting next fall, Rhodes would also offer a Political Economy major. It’s an excellent combination of Economics and Political Science, especially if a student doesn’t like calculus and Math in general. Within the Political Science Major, there are 4 concentrations: International, Philosophical, Historical and Policy.
