Hey I am a sophmore at Tufts and I am an economics major. However, I am also very interested in Geology and doing a double major is very alluring. I know it will be challenging and most of my remaining classes will be Econ and Geology. My question is: Would it be a big advantage if I had degrees in Geology and Economics? Are there any careers that would tap into my knowledge of both these areas? I am interested in energy industry, finance, and resource management. Is it worth doing the double major? I know this is a very specialized issue but any advice helps a lot!

With the impact volcanic ash is having on flying goods (and people) around the globe these days, Geology could come in handy! Seriously though, majoring in Geochemistry or Geophysics can obviously come in useful if one applies to petrochemical firms.

Thanks that only kind of helped though.

I am a 30 year energy geologist, so I would offer this advice.
it is my opinion only.

I think this can be a good combination. Consider getting an econmoics undergrad with a minor in geology and then an MS in geology. woudl be a useful combination at energy companies… the MS is essentially required to work as a geologist … so this would maximize the potential… Also Tufts is not widely recruited in geology, but its business/economics etc school woudl have good name recognition
