Economics and Neuroscience Double Major?

I'm going to be a premed student (@ Duke) next year and am wondering if this major combination is possible/advisable/manageable.

I'm really interested in both, but I feel that if this is indeed not possible/advisable then I would probably choose Neuroscience over Economics.

Advice? Has anyone ever heard of this being done before?

It probably has been done before, but why?

Since your goal is to have a top GPA and get into med school, why would you risk that with a double major?

I can understand including an Econ class or two…or even a minor…but to include it as a second major which could cause havoc with your GPA seems to risky.

I like minors because you can often have more control over which classes you will take. Many minors only have one or two required classes and the rest are “student’s choice” as long as you have some specified number of 300/400 level courses.

And…if you plan on applying to med school as a “rising senior”, then you’ll need to keep your fall schedule “light” to have time for interviews. That may not be possible with a double major.

If you love economics just take classes in it; don’t commit yourself to majoring in it.
