Economics at Berkeley & Job Placement

Hello,

As a high school senior, I am going to apply to one of my dream schools, UC Berkeley, this fall. I was deciding whether I should attempt for a different school such as Tepper at CMU. I love Berkeley and want to go there, but Haas is obviously difficult to get into, and if you don’t get in, then you’re stuck with an Economics major. That raises the question:

I know Econ majors have access to the same recruiting as Haas undergraduates, but do both degrees give you access to the same careers as I want a job as a consultant, and I was wondering if I would be able to obtain this job with a BA in Economics at Berkeley, if rejected from Haas.

How good is Berkeley’s Economics program and what jobs will it get you into? (ALSO, is Economics at Cal good for Investment Banking and Consulting?)

This might give you some ideas.

If you do well in your courses and interview well, there’s nothing stopping you from being a consultant. You can interview for just about anything those at Haas interview for. Econ majors place well in general, and you can get about any job you can think of … it just depends on the person.

This older post mentions what the investment banking recruiting scene looked like at the time:

You may want to go heavy on the math and statistics.
