Economics at Columbia University?

Hello, I am an ED (crossing fingers!) prospective applicant to Columbia from Taiwan. I wanted to ask about the reputation of the Columbia Economics undergraduate department and how good it is. I know that its graduate level programs are top notch, but I was wondering if any current students/parents could provide input on how their undergrad classes were.

Also, how involved are students? I want to go into academia, so I was looking at the student clubs there. I found a really cool club they have, Columbia Economics Review, an undergrad econ journal that looks professional. Here is the facebook link, https://www.facebook. com/ColumbiaEconomicsReview, and here http://columbiaeconreview.com/ is there website. If I like their Facebook page, will I have a better chance of getting in?

Hi! I am a current CC 2018 student studying Economics, and no, liking a facebook page won’t help you get in. It’s a student club that is unaffliated with the admissions department. However, it’s good that you are showing interest, and if you get in, you should join. I have a few friends in it and it is a legit journal sponsored by the Economics department itself.

As for the quality of undergraduate education, I really like it! What I have heard is that different teachers teach different material though. Like for Macro, you might have a professor that specializes in international macroeconomics, like I did, or something else.

Good luck with apps!
