Economics at NYU

How good is the economics program at NYU. I would love to get into Stern but may have to settle for the Economics major. Is there that much of a difference in the two?

stern is a school, econ is a major. you can't compare the "difference in the two." stern and CAS both have econ majors.

Thanks Big Red. Well i guess what i was trying to say was is there a big difference between Stern Econ and CAS Econ?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=1043856#post1043856%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=1043856#post1043856</a></p>

Is there a difference? No. Stern econ majors take econ courses with CAS econ majors. However, Stern students do not take as many econ electives as CAS students do.

They have some big names at NYU in Economics. Ariel Rubinstein, e.g. They've furthered the field of econometrics. One of the profs, Bisin, was a graduate student of Gary Becker ('92 Nobel Prize in Economics). I, for one, can't see the point in majoring in the policy concentration, it seems more like poli sci. But, it would be interesting to know if the big name profs actually spend time w/ undergrads or are just w/ grad students and research projects.

Have you tried finding an dept "rankings" information?
