Hi! I was just wondering how good is the economics major at USC? Is it comparable to some of the nation’s best programs and what are the graduate prospects? Thank you!!
The graduate school ranking shows the resources the program has and is a proxy for the undergrad program, though really the undergrad programs are probably more similar to each other.
USC was ranked 36th by USNWR putting it behind most UC programs (well behind UCLA and UCB)

Ok great thanks! So you’d say that for undergraduates it is a good option since most colleges teach similar material? Basically would you say it’s worth it and that the graduate prospects are as good as UCLA or UCB?
I know that USC has a strong alumni network but I just want to make sure that the economics department is strong and that it is possible to find good jobs after I graduate.
What matters is how well you do in the program and whether the courses you pick are well chosen for your desired career. If you want to go in to academia and a PhD in economics, your undergrad coursework better show the harder calculus tracks, post calc math classes like linear algebra etc. the kids coming out of Econ programs like UChicago are being schooled at that highest math (proof) level that graduate programs will require.
If instead you want to go into the business works, then supplemental classes like accounting and finance will be valuable.
So yes, USC should provide you the necessary platform if you have the right courses and the right grades.
Perhaps USC has job placement statistics for the Econ department undergrads?
