Economics Major at UW?

So there are loads of threads about computer science, one of which I created myself earlier this year when I was leaning towards that as a major. But after having done a little bit of Python programming and watched a few MIT OpenCourseWare lectures, I've decided that though I do find it somewhat interesting it's not really for me.

Economics, on the other hand, is something I've been very interested in lately and seems much more up my alley. I'd be going to UW on an NROTC scholarship, which encourages/requires a STEM-type major, and quantitative economics fits the bill nicely.

All of that exposition (mea culpa for the verbosity) leads me to ask one question, or rather a few: how is the economics department at UW? Have those of you in the department enjoyed your professors? Thought the coursework challenging but rewarding? Please do let me know, I'd stop by the department and ask myself but I kind of live over 3,000 miles away. Thanks.

I second OP’s question. I listed Economics as a second major and I find it quite interesting.

just wondering…how many majors can you list on the transfer application? O.O

ilovecollege777, it’s 2.

This is the Quantitative Mathematical Economics degree:

[Applied and Computational Math Sciences Program (ACMS) - University of Washington](Mathematical Economics | Applied and Computational Math Sciences Program (ACMS) | College of Arts and Sciences - University of Washington)

The traditional Econ major can be heavily quantitative if you would like it to be, but it really isn’t heavy on such things.

Remember, the next Governor of the State of Washington will be a UW Econ grad.

Also, if you think you might like an Econ major at UW, come sit in on one of the Brownbag presentations. They’re typically around lunch in Savery 410.
