Hi,
I am in the process of transferring schools because my current school does not have an economics & math major, only general economics. My current list of schools that I am planning to transfer to all have economics and math as a major. Is switching from a purely economics major to economics & math major considered a valid reason for transferring to the admission officers?
Just a side question: Is double majoring in both math and economics essentially the same as a joint/combined economics and math major? are there any key differences?
I am just confused by the transfer process and really need some advice
I think that the only difference is that a joint major might have a couple crossover classes that are explicitly meant for the double majors, because the program is already outlined.
@philbegas Thank you for your insight. In ur opinion, do you think that the difference would be substantial enough to be considered a valid reason for transferring schools?
It depends, can you add on a math major at your current school and double major?
It depends on the school.
Could you take additional math and statistics courses at your current school while majoring in economics?
It depends on the university. My university has a mathematical economics major and you don’t take the same number of upper level math classes a math major would, same with Econ. Basically, they substitute some requirements and remove some requirements from what the double major would be. The math econ major requires the same amount of credits as a BS in math at my school. A double major in Econ and math would require more.
