Economics Major

Ok, so i want to major in economics.. Is it a competitive/hard major at berk? When can you apply to HAAS program??

I'm actually considering premed, so i might not do HAAS. I also heard the premed classes at berkeley are killers... and a bit harder than la's is that true?

just to address your questions regarding the econ major:

most people tell me that getting B's in the preqs is good enough to get into the major. anything less than that is not good, i think average gpa is 3.3 or something. not too bad, and they dont ask for any extra curriculars (so you wont have to join a bunch of ******** clubs for resume filler, as in haas)

it's not extremely difficult but it definitely isn't cake ether. if you are a good amount above average in your classes, you should be fine.

you apply to haas 1st semester your sophomore year.

econ isn't so bad. to make absolutely sure you get in, get at least a B in every prereq. to have a chance (but not a 100% chance) of getting in, you can do a little worse than that and write a short personal statement kind of thingy.

berkeley's overall average GPA is higher than that of LA's (around 3.3 for Berkeley and 3.2 for LA). but as premed is not a major, i can't tell you if the avg premed GPA at berkeley is higher than that of LA's.
