I was wondering if undergraduate at University of Rochester is also well known for economics major. I have heard so many positive things about pre-med and stuff like that but was wondering if economics is good. I really want to know...

So does anyone know anything about it? I am going to U of R next year as undergraduate freshman. So I am hoping that economics major is really good there!

mcomeonm, you will be pleasantly surprised! Each year we have students coming to campus who want to study economics or political science but don’t realize how strong these programs are. Econ. is consistently ranked in the top 15 in the country by US News. Back in the 1970s, Stanley Engerman wrote a very important book called Time on the Cross which looks at the economics of slavery.

The National Research Council rankings, which are used more by Economics experts, ranked UR’s doctoral program 10th in the country. In the category of “publications per faculty member” we were ranked 3rd, in a tie with Boston University. One of the great advantages of a UR education is that the relationship between the graduate schools and undergrad is very porous, meaning that there are many opportunities to take graduate level classes.
