Currently, I am a freshman attending UCF. In HS I took my gen ed’s through dual enrollment, but I did not know what major I wanted to study. Because of that I did not take many math classes. Now that I know what I want to study (Engineering), I have many open spots in my schedule. I think Economics is pretty interesting overall, so I am thinking about minoring in it. I will have Intro Macro/Micro done, so I will only need four more classes. My questions are: How challenging is Intermediate Micro or Macro? Also, would the minor be a bit too much since I am majoring in engineering? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
Check out the course catalog to see what is required of the Econ. minor, whether there are course overlaps with some of the pre-reqs for engineering, etc. You might find the quantitative portions to be consistent with your engineering studies. However, economic theory is very different from engineering so just be prepared to think a bit differently. You should be able to find it both challenging and fun.
As long as your principles courses were solid, you would be well prepared for intermediate. If you get an MBA down the line, those econ courses might allow you to skip whatever economics core you would otherwise be required to take. Finally, the minor might give you an edge on the job market.
Good luck to you!
Talk to your advisor at college and see what you have room for. If you are going for engineering make that your first focus.
@happy1 I definitely will keep that in mind, engineering will for sure come first. @JBStillFlying okay great! I have looked at the catalog and a lot of the classes seem interesting to me. Thank you both for the advice!
