Hmm maybe I should have posted my questions on anew thread but this one seems relevant. I’m at a community college and intend to transfer to Haas. My question is do many courses for the Econ and business major overlap (upper division)? I know some people will say its not worth it but I’m just curious that’s all.

I took 100a and I didn’t think it was difficult. If you are comfortable with basic calculus and a little messy algebra then you should be okay. I have no idea how 101a compares to 100a but I don’t imagine it’s that bad. I’m taking econ 104 this semester which lists 101a as a prerequisite and I’m not worried about it. I’m not doing a double because I want to graduate ASAP, but I am taking upper div math classes such as math 110 and 104. I have also taken stat 134.
@olivizzle23 none of the business classes overlap with econ classes except for econ 136 which covers the same material as some of the finance haas classes.

Thanks JavyUCB! It really helps to hear from someone who is in the program and can give an idea on how some of the classes are.

By the way can anyone comment on Econ C103 (mathematical econ)?

An economics graduate student says that Economics/Math C103 is not supposed to be very hard, but that you should take real analysis (Math 104) first:

Prerequisite listed in the catalog is Math 53 and 54.

Yeah I just looked at the grade distribution on schedule builder and it is mostly A’s and B’s so hopefully it really is not too hard.
Hypothetically speaking, if I could not complete all these math-heavy courses, or I was not able to land a job in finance for whatever reason, could a Masters in Finance help? Say from Claremont Mckenna, MIT, or Vanderbilt?

Has anyone taken Econ 101B and willing to share their view on the class?
101A is full so I’m debating between 101B and 100A to take in the spring. 101B is being taught by visiting professor Arnold and I was wondering how easy it to get an A or B in his class. 100A is taught by Kamala. I know ucbalumnus said it isn’t too math heavy, but are the concepts easy to understand?

By the way, the advantage I see for 100A is the availability of more electives come Fall 2014, but even for Fall I guess I would take 101A if I stay in 101B for spring, and then stats 134, and some other econ elective.
