Well i have this thread in the business forum but did not think was the right place

YOu guys gotta help me. I plan to do a phD in Economics and am just a freshman in a small and unreputed college. How do I make my way to a good grad school like Harvard. HOw should I prepare? I am double majoring in Economics and maths. Let me know. Will internships help. If yes, where do I get internhips and please let me know about any helpful information for a prospective PhD candidate.

Well, you're off to a good start by double majoring in Economics and Mathematics.

Graduate level economics is almost all math and schools absolutely love to see someone with a solid math background. Keep in mind, if you want to get into someplace like Harvard for PhD program, you're gonna need to get upwards of 3.8/3.9 in all your economics and math coursework to even stand a chance. Predictably, 2nd tier grad schools will be less strict but the following statement still stands: Every grad school is looking for ACADEMICS (that is, very intellectual people that will provide excellent research and contribute to the field of study in profound ways). An academic does not do poorly in his field of study. So, first step, is to get amazing grades.

Next, you want to start doing research. Again, grad schools like candidates that have predisposition for doing quality research and you can only prove this to them by actually doing some during undergrad. There are always professors at universities and colleges that need a helping hand with the research that they are doing. If the professor gets published, you'll probably get mentioned in the research paper in some very small way and that's definitely something that should be put on your resum
