On the undergrad application for Alabama, it has two different school choices for economics: Arts and Science and Culverhouse.
Does it matter which one you choose on the application or are you locked in to that school?
Just wondering how certain an applicant needs to be before filing the application.

Many thanks,

The application doesn’t lock you in to anything. Students change majors (including from one major to a major in another school) all the time. I don’t think it would be a big deal to change from CAS Economics to CBA Economics (or vice versa) even after freshman year, as most students don’t take the Lower Division CBA courses until sophomore year.

The difference between CBA Economics and A&S economics are the course requirements and the degree awarded. All economics courses are taught by CBA faculty. It also depends on what other majors/minors one might have. If said majors and minors are business majors, foreign languages, or mathematics, CBA economics is the way to go. Students double majoring in political science typically major in A&S economics.

Do note that CBA tends to have more student friendly rules when it comes to double majoring as it typically allows for some courses to count for multiple majors.

Many thanks for the responses!
