If I'm wanting to transfer as an economics major is it necessary or strongly recommended to have taken an economics course before transferring? Will this affect admission decisions if I haven't taken it yet?

I don’t think it will hurt you.

I took Micro during my first semester at ACC and got a C.
I was accepted to UT Economics anyways…

Good question. I’m trying to transfer into economics too, but I haven’t taken the course yet except in high school (not AP or anything). I made an A, but I don’t know if they’ll look at my HS record.

You might get credit for intro to Micro/Macro for an AP but the Economics degree requires you to take Macro and Micro in residence along with Statistics. The first few semester is mostly about getting the pre-req’s to take these and the other economics classes out of the way. These pre-reqs are two or three semesters of calculus. two if you go the C,D route and three if you go K,L and M. You will probably also be taking your language and some history/misc classes to get those requirements out of the way so I would say it does not really matter if you have taken an economics class or not if you want to transfer, but after three semesters it might start to add time to your graduation date.

If you were at UT, your year by year schedule would be something like this:
First year - micro, macro, and a year of calculus (C and D) so you have your multivariate done before second year.
Second year - microeconomic theory (which requires you to have multivariate calculus completed), macroeconomic theory, other distribution requirements
Third and fourth year - upper level classes (which require you to have the theory classes completed) in your major (and finish the upper level classes needed for your minor)
