Hi, I am currently enrolled in Intermediate Microeconomics for Spring 2010. What math classes do I need to take to be prepared? Is it hard for freshman? Exactly what multivariable calculus topics are in the class? I have only taken Calc II and introduction to microeconomics. At the moment I am taking the class with Bar.

It’s not that bad. The most you’ll have to do from multivariable is partial derivatives, but those aren’t hard.

Only Calc I is required for 3130. Technically there is multivariable, but all you’ll get into is partial derivatives, which is extremely similar to a regular derivative. If it’s like my class was, you’ll learn all the necessary math in one section.

From what I’ve heard as long as you have Calc I, you can learn any other math required for the course in about a 10 minute session from your TA during office hours or section.

What about the theory? Is it significantly more challenging than theories from micro intro or about the same level? Also, how’s the workload? Thanks for the responses also, much appreciated.

work load might vary by professor, when I was in the course homework was optional, and the only grades were from exams.
the theory is obviously more challenging, but I didn’t think it was impossible. I’m not majoring in anything even close to economics but I was able to understand what was going on (with the proper prereqs, obviously.)
