(Economics) UCD vs UCSD

I applied to UCD, UCSD, UCSB, UCLA and UC Berkeley.

So far, I've been accepted to UCD(Economics) and UCSB(Economics and Accounting), and denied from UCLA(Business Economics - surprised, but if they don't want me in their university, then they). I don't want to be an accountant, so I'm trying to decide between UCD and UCSD.

I'm still waiting on UCSD(hope to be accepted) and UC Berekely(will probably get denied since I was denied at UCLA and only have one extra curricular since I'm dirt poor and live a complex life).

Anyway, how do the Economics Undergraduate Programs at UCD and UCSD compare? I've come to the conclusion that UCSD has a higher "ranking," but what are their job placement, etc. like? Is it worth joining the Honors program of either? I'm worried about job placement(availability, type and pay). What kind of jobs can I land with an Economics degree from UCD or UCSD? Also, the Economic courses available at UCSD seem to be more interesting than those at UCD... has anybody else noticed that? UCD's Economics courses seem rather bland... unless the electives are hidden somewhere. Is UCSD's job recruitment still as good or nearly as good as UCLA and Berkeley for Economics?

Also, are the alternate Economics majors better than a straightforward Economics major at UCD or UCSD?

All of a sudden, I have a lot of decisions to make... didn't think I would get rejected by UCLA.

Thank you!

I’d like to know the same thing. Sort of in the same boat as you, except that I’m still waiting to hear back from UCI, SD, and Cal.

How do the econ majors differ at the UCs, essentially?

(bump)

The only thing I can contribute is that I have heard UCSD has a spectacular Econometrics Faculty. I know UCD has a good Ag Econ and AG Bus faculty/community.

Although UCSD was great for me and I have an amazing job opportunity lined up with the federal government, I think I would have gone to UCD had I had that option (I’m stuck in socal due to family commitments). There seems to be a lot more job opportunities for Econ grads in norcal than in socal. While searching for jobs/internships prior to graduation, I often became frustrated at the lack of opportunities in SD. All the gigs were up in San Fran and Sac. I ended up getting multiple offers but I think I could have received a lot more had I been able to move up north.

Your situation may allow you to mor post graduation so this dilemma may not apply. You can go to UCSD and then move to wherever you land a job.

UCSD Econ department is great. Brilliant profs,TA’s, and students. Competition for grades is fierce which means you’ll learn a lot.

I am very interested in more opinions on this topic.

Thanks for the response!

I just got into SD for Econ in Warren, but a lot of people got in for Revelle. I don’t know too much about the different colleges, and I also got econ for Davis.

I’m from NorCal so moving back here to get a job won’t be a problem for me. Is that really your only concern?
