What are the pros and cons of an economics v. finance major? Basically, which one will give you a job? How good do you have to be in math? I'm pretty good, but not one of those geniuses that can untangle complex proofs.

Economics is a more academic endeavor, finance is... well, it focuses on the world of finance, so it's more preprofessional in nature. If you're solely concerned with getting a job, pick the program that's better at your school--assuming all recruitment opportunities your school provides that are open to finance majors are also open to econ majors. Proof based math has absolutely nothing to do with finance (and often not a ton to do with economics, especially at the undergraduate level), even the "high-end" stuff, though you may have to go through real analysis type courses to meet the prerequisites of certain other courses. Proof based math will not factor in to a career in finance.

You just have to know programming and statistics really.
