what does economics do that AEM doesn't and vice versa, b/c I might want to transfer over to AEM for undergrad business b/c I want to do pre-med, but if that doesn't work out, would AEM provide me with a job opportunity opportunity than econ??

I would say about the same. I have friends in both AEM and Econ, they were all able to find great internships.

The two majors are completely different. AEM courses, which revolve around business, include managment, finance, economics, and analytical classes. Economics would only offer econ and other analytical classes. Studying economics would not make you more well versed in finance or general business. But, either way recruiters like both econ and AEM majors, and you would not have much trouble finding an internship or job. The main thing to consider is what courses you would prefer taking - both for the major and the respective colleges requirements.

As an econ major you would have to meet the Arts and Sciences college requirments, which is heavily based on liberal arts. In AEM you have to meet the ag school requirements as well, which are based on liberal arts as well. However in Ag, there are fewer college requiorments and they are more flexible.

Explore the websites of each major (econ - http://www.arts.cornell.edu/econ/mainwindow.shtml ; AEM -http://business.aem.cornell.edu/)

so watttttttttttt do you guys recommend??????????

I say transfer to Ag if you are a NYS resident. Otherwise, stay with A&S. It's a lot easier to be a premed while being an econ major than AEM major, because your schedule could be more flexible. Also, if you happened to enroll in Ag and wish to take more than 60 endowed credits as an AEM major, you need to pay additional fees.

You could be a pre-med in both CAS and CALS. For more information on the difference between AEM and Economics, you might be interested in the following thread from December 2004:

Also, AEM in Agriculture and Life Science announced last year that they received an endowment for a new professorship in Science and Business that will "advance research and teaching in the Department of Applied Economics and Management." It seems like a logical choice for a pre-med/business major. http://www.news.cornell.edu/Chronicle/04/10.28.04/Lynch_professorship.html
