found the right thread

Hello

Sorry if this is the wrong area to post, there is no UH forum.

Anyways to cut to the chance i am currently a Econ major at UH with about 76hrs, now that Im close to graduating Im worried that i will not find a good job with an econ degree, the business school at UH is ranked #40 by us news and has active recruitment. I am thinking about switching to finance, because they have a degree plan which focuses on building a professional vs econ is mostly academic… so if I switch I will lose about 34hrs which would suck big time but i suppose would be worth it if land a better job, the other option is to finish my econ degree in go for a Masters in finance at UH or somewhere else. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
parker

Is something stopping you from double majoring? What about an economics major with a finance minor if double majoring isn’t possible?

If you really love finance, then I think an economics undergraduate (I would add a math minor–it complements econ/finance extremely well) and a Masters in Finance would be a great combination. I think most MFIN programs are two years long and won’t require work experience. Are you stuck on going to UH for graduate school?

No actually I would prefer to go to a more nationally recognized school. I know its soon to be tier 1, but now that I can afford to leave town I’m itching too. Does double majoring help that much? I mean wouldn’t a masters > 2 bachelors?? I agree with the math minor, everything Ive found on other forums claims this is the best route esp. for grad school. Thanks for the input!

Or should i just transfer to Texas A&M as an econ major, i hear the alumni is really good there. I just concerned that I am going to graduate and have a tough time getting into a solid career. which would be preferable be something with international trade, investing, and cost analysis. There is just not much recruiting going on at UH COLA
