Hey everyone.
I am starting college this fall and I am most likely to major in Econ with a minor in Maths. (Maybe if I can handle econ well, I may take maths double major.) I am aiming for law school so I will also take some useful classes in Pol Sci and Philosophy. I took almost a year to finally decide which I should study in college and now, I feel great having decided. However, my family and relatives don't really like my idea.
They suggested me to take Accounting or Finance since I am a Maths geek. Sure, I love maths. But accounting? Yikes. I can't really imagine myself covered by a heap of spreadsheets. I don't know much about Finance but I have read several articles about how the major is like so I have a brief idea. Finance and accounting can be quite similar. Therefore, I don't wanna take Finance either.
But the major problem is, everyone is telling me that it's impossible to get a job with a BS in econ. I know that I will definitely go to law school but since my family won't support me by any means once I finish college, I need a job before law school to pay for myself. That thought is scaring me off from econ.
So, I'm now quite stuck with the major choice. I guess econ will be the best for law school but finance will secure me a job for sure.
Every single comment is appreciated. Please help me decide. Thank you!

The people telling you it’s impossible to get a job with a BS in Econ are suffering from ignorance.

A BS in Econ and a Math minor are redundant. A minor in international relations may be more satisfying from what you describe in previous posts. Or a minor in philosophy as you mention here. Majoring in either, or political science, doesn’t have much use outside of a career in academia.

If you don’t like the type of work accountants or finance guys do, it’s simple. Don’t major in it.
