Economy affecting choice between public vs. private?

<p>How do you think the current economic situation will affect prospective students' decisions on where to go to school?</p>

<p>If you are a prospective student, are you applying to more publics now because of this situation?</p>

<p>Personally, I have never wanted to take out loans. I live in NY where we have a great public school system. Even if I was applying 10 years ago, I would have wanted to attend a SUNY school just so I wouldn't have had to pay back loans further down the road. I'm really hoping, however, that the economy won't hurt me with even more students applying to these schools.</p>

<p>I’ll probably still apply to one or two privates.
The rest will be publics.</p>

<p>I don’t plan on taking out loans for undergrad. Graduate/Med. school is a different story.</p>

<p>Yep, no point blowing 200K on pre-med at a private school when a public school will do fine.</p>
