ECs and Major Have to relate?

Hi. I was writing my list of ECs and awards, and I've noticed I only have a handful of ECs and awards that actually pertain to my intended major. Most of my ECs and awards relate to volunteering at local animal shelter/sports/music/work/other academics such as language. I have an immense interest in my major, yet I don't have much to list that pertain to my major. My ECs and awards are very diverse and competitive. Will it lower my chances into getting admitted if my ECs and awards to not depict my interest in my intended major?

I dont think it matters what your EC's are as long as you show that you have a devotion to something.

bump? I would like to hear others' opinions as well.

Well, it is best some of your big time ECs relate to your major (especially internships) but it is also good to have some strong ECs outside the field you want to major in to make you seem well rounded. Let's say you want to be a doctor. Volunteering at a hospital, scientific research, and some science/medical clubs are good. What will separate you from the rest of the people who do all that would be to be an amazing writer, or athlete, or be poltically active, etc. Thing is, colleges wont take your intended major 100% seriously because most people change a few times in college.

The vast majority of students coming into college either don't know what they want to major in or they change their minds once they get there (as venkater said). ECs should reflect your interests- if they're the same as your major, that's fine. If not, that's fine too.

that is just super.
thanks alot!
