EC's and "resume loading"

Well, my junior year is about to end and senior is about to start. I’m planning to take up a couple more EC’s my senior year (wrestling and tennis and maybe a club) not because I want to put it on my application, but just to have some fun. The reason I didn’t do these my other years is because I simply did not have to for them. So, on the application, should I even list these new EC’s that I’m planning for my senior year or should I just leave them out completely?

It's not whether or not you have all these sudden new clubs, (eventhough it COULD be looked down on as resume loading) but the question is how you suddenly do have time for all these sports and another activity. Tennis AND Wrestling AND a new club, when you had no time before?

Where I'm going with this is: Are you leaning towards senioritis? Are you're classes suddenly cut down? I mean, where does all this time you never had before come from?

I don't think it'll look so bad adding your new EC's, but limit them to 1 or 2, and usually people don't join sports to "add on resume" because sports DO require commitment and practice.

I think it depends on the ECs you have before your senior year. If you have been passionate about certain ECs all through high school, then adding a few more to show your interest/enthusiasm would be fine, but if you've struggled to fit in any ECs, suddenly throwing on a few more could look desperate.

Toss them in your essay or mention them as random little committments under the EC page. but dont try to make it look like you're using them for space.

I think you should continue whatever ECs you had before and then pick one that you want to add in senior year. Think about it: between college apps (which is going to take up until January if you are not applying early) and your regular courseload and the ECs you already have, you might find yourself having even LESS time to do ECs, at least during the first time.
