Disregarding all other info that is factored into admission, is my list of ecs comparable to other applicants applying to ivies/high reach schools? I'm not asking if I'll get accepted, no one can really guess that. I'm simply wondering if my list of activities is competitive.

I am a sophomore, this is the list SO FAR.

I would love to attend a summer program that many students go to, however my family cannot afford that kind of thing, so I make do with what I can locally and I'm very happy with it. My main point when I apply will be focusing on having an impact in the community, especially with the kids I've worked with, which is what I enjoy doing most. Does this look competitive enough? Or do I honestly have no chance?

Obviously, I have not applied to any competitions as far as scholarships go yet, however I plan to.

I can only give you advice on certain parts of your resume.

I feel that what you have so far may not be extremely reliable. I mean everything can be subjected to change, so i can’t really tell you much about that.

But what i can give you advice about is the student council part of it. I’m also in student council but I’m elected. Colleges will care whether or not if you’re elected or if you can just apply to join. The ones where anyone can apply are generally larger student councils. The elected ones are smaller and thus more responsibility is given to these elected councils. Also, the elected ones require ‘people skills’ where its more competitive, versus the apply to join ones.

I can ALMOST–anything is subject to change—guarantee most of these will make it on my final ec list. So, for curiosity’s sake, I just wanted to see, if this ends up being my complete list, if it is competitive.

Also, I am aware of the difference between student council and student government. Honestly, I’m not worried about it at all. It’s a sidenote to what my focus is. My entire application will not depend on if I won the popularity contest, which is what my own school’s election typically turns into. It is just a fun thing to do to help out the school. For the ‘people skills’ aspect of my app, I think that will show strongly through my role as founder of the UNICEF club. I’ve had to organize, prepare, and deliver presentations to represent the club at expos, community events, and school events. Not only did this address the public, I also have to manage and guide members, which also requires ‘people skills’.

Those are very valid arguments, but colleges want to see something you’re passionate in, not just something that looks good. Try to focus more on one or a few specific topic instead.

Can you re-post the list with what you have actually done at this point? Speaking from personal experience your plans regarding ECs can change a lot from one year to another…
