ECs don't matter?

After reading many threads, I have concluded that ECs < essay

Why? Why? Why?

my current GPA is 3.4 (from summer semester)
and im taking 16 units
ECs - president of Thai club
- member of Econ club
- Chair gov representative of transfer student
It's my first year in college
my major is econ
As u can see from my name, I wanna go to UCB or UCLA

My questions are
1. ECs don't matter?
2. My chance of getting in?

ok i know it is too soon to determine but im so excited -_-

You're EC/Essay doesn't mean much. Just get a good GPA and you'll get into wherever UC you want to go to.

It's true that ECs don't matter much for UC transfers. As much as ECs play such small role in your application, your GPA becomes the main factor.
You are a econ major, i see. Unless you are in TAP with UCLA, I suggest you raising your GPA to above 3.7 level to be competitive (3.8 to be safe).

Too Early to determine. At least have 30 credits completed then ask.

E.C's matter, just not as much as your GPA.You can use your EC as your essay topic...

Yes to UCLA, Maybe to UCB

yes, that's the only reason why you should have EC - to include in the essay. Besides that, if you have a high enough GPA, then your chance is fine even if you have the bare minimum EC.

But really, don't set your goal to transferring.
Get a job or do EC. It'll do you good when you get a job in the future in the field of business or economics or anything.
