I currently suck at EC too (In fact I only have 1 in high school. I was so proactive in middle school -___-‘’)

lol I love how you said to LIE. Can you imagine how embarrassed if you got CAUGHT?

@collegeinfo1994: That makes a lot of sense. Truthfully, I really should take on some leadership roles, but I’m always scared that I won’t have enough time to do all of my HW and then take responsibility in all of my clubs, etc… Thanks for the advise though! I’ll definitely take that to heart.

@ecouter11: Really interesting website. Nice find! Favorited.

@SeekingUni: I’ll ask my piano teacher about that. I think at this point, any award would help my case.

@Dorkyelmo: Tell me about it… I would probably die of shame.

Hmm… so more dedication into piano and finding and grabbing leadership positions in clubs, etc. I think I can do that. Ugh… I see why everyone thinks that junior year is the hardest/most time consuming.

It’s not that hard. I had a similar fear when I entered HS. I gave up playing the trumpet by not joining band in HS, and it’s my biggest school-related regret to date. Because now I’d love to be in marching band in college or something, but that went out the window with my soon-to-be four years of not even looking at my trumpet.

Just a little spiel in response to your fear of taking all the responsibility for the clubs, but part of being a leader is delegating. You won’t be the only one the club’s responsibility falls on. You’ll have fellow officers and people you can pass responsibility onto in order to efficiently run the club. It’s part of leadership. A good leader doesn’t do it all.

Colleges like to see you busy, stretching your time, and balancing many things. An admissions officer at UF put this into a really different and extremely insightful perspective for me the other day: “Colleges figure you go to school for 7 hours a day, and sleep for 7 hours a day; we want to know what you do the other 10 hours a day.” Certainly it’s not just homework. You need to illustrate how you fill those 10 hours DAILY on your application and in your essay.

Wow. That is really insightful. It kind of conceptualizes the entire balance of time into a single sentence.

Yeah, I’m starting to regret not joining any clubs freshman year. Oh well. I’ll just make the best out of my situation now.

I am trying to hit alot of volunteer hours. I started this summer, and I will be a rising Sophomore. I am committed to my Model UN club. I go to choir and such.

Not good as some in CC, but I feel that the top 50 would rather see commitment then 1000’s of accomplishments.

^That’s what I’m starting to think.

Yes. No doubt. This is a fact.

You just need to have accomplishments that illustrate and demonstrate your commitment. Your word isn’t exactly enough.

*just a side-note: teenagers need 9.25 hours of sleep, and I don’t know about you all, but homework usually takes a good 5-6 hours of my day. Just thought I’d point that out. (But don’t worry, I still contribute to 8 EC’s…so you can do it, too!)
Junior year is the most stressful, but this is the time when you need to shape your passion(if you haven’t already) and do everything you can with it. YOU GOT DISSS.

^ Junior year definitely is the time to do everything you can. I have so many plans for my FBLA club next year as president, but I’ve only recently realized that it’s going to be too late to put on my apps and such. I should have done it all this past (junior) year. So learn from my (and many others’) mistake and do it now. :)

^Saaame situation. All my leadership postitions (except like 2) are for senior year. I’m also starting a club this upcoming year. If only I started using CC a year earlier to see the crazy competition…haha

^Definitely. CC has been an eye opener, to say the least.

Don’t lie. I mean honestly, do you want that on your mind for the months you’re waiting for a reply from the university?

^Hm? Yo no comprende.
