You know how in HS you're supposed to put ECs on apps to colleges...in college, do ECs matter when applying to graduate schools? Or do you just participate in whatever you want because you're interested in it, instead of because you want it to look good on an application?

Jobs, internships, volunteer work, research, club involvement, etc. look good when applying to graduate school. Graduate programs typically do not want persons whose applications make them look like they’ve holed themselves up in the library for four years.

Yeah I knew about all the job, internship, volunteer, and research that makes it look good. But are clubs/other activities as big of a deal or not? Because it sounds like there’s so much to do in college for that kind of stuff and people make a really big deal out of it, but I don’t know if they do that just because those things are fun or if it’s for their grad school application. What is a reasonable amount of on-campus clubs/other activities to be in?

I would say 3 at least. One that you enjoy and are interested in, an honour society related to your major, and a sports-based one to keep you fit and healthy. You will meet interesting people in all of these, and you can pick and choose your friends based on their interests and yours.

ok, so kinda a variety of types of activities, a couple of different things is good…
