Hi everyone, my counselor told me that I can’t fit Soccer PE, Orchestra, and Honors Physiology all in one schedule because I am in the IB program, therefore my classes are really tight. My choice is either to drop Soccer PE or drop Orchestra. I did orchestra last year, but not soccer due to an injury. I do want to major in the medical field so it is important to take Honors Physiology. Please help me ASAP!
I am a sophomore in HS
My advice is to pick the one you feel you’ll do best in. Have you played soccer before?
How long have you been doing orchestra because remember colleges look for comittment. Same thing for soccer as well. Also look at which one will you fit in Better based on ur workload. Also think about the amount of gpa you get out of the two courses.
Don’t overdo yourself as well some you might be taking psat this year and also need time to study for sat/act
Personally, I would keep orchestra and drop soccer. Colleges like to see that you’re committed to your craft. Musical talent is also a nice EC to have, considering you have to learn to read music and commit yourself to performances and whatnot. If you feel more connected to soccer, though, maybe you should go for it. Do whichever is going to make you happier later on, as you’ll need that less stressful course for your rigorous junior year and the possibly stressful senior year.
I was in this same situation. There was no way I could fit 2 music electives and an engineering class into my schedule. I realized that my only option was to take online classes and summer school for my foreign language credits and other requirements. You have to be very committed if you choose this path. It’s not an ideal situation because of the cost and time this takes out of your day. If you truly are invested in both Orchestra and Soccer, then this would be a an option for you. I can’t tell you which class to drop if you don’t have the time for the previously mentioned option. Soccer and Orchestra are both excellent extracurricular activities.
Thanks everyone, I’ve been doing club soccer for 9 years, and Orchestra for 4 years now if that helps. The thing with IB is that the counselors wont let you be in orchestra because there is “no room for it” but I can still do soccer since you do not have to be in the class.
Maybe join an orchestra outside of school? Both are very good EC’s though, it would be a shame if you had to drop one.
