EC's

Im a junior, and I have a crap load of EC's, but I only plan on putting down a few.
Does Columbia really look at EC's tho? It takes a lot of time, and altho I have the A's, I havent had much sleep...

Are EC's important?

Note: Im going to cpy and pste this in some of my other choice colleges pages, so its not spam ;)

Yes EC’s are extremely important. In fact, they are probably the most important part of your application. When you are applying and competing with 1000’s of students who have straight A’s and 2300+ SAT scores, it really comes down to essays and EC’s to distinguish your application from the majority of others.

Agreed- I’m an unhooked Asian male from NJ without perfect scores, I can tell you for a fact that recommendations, essays, and ECs above all got me in.

Ugh… k i guess no sleep.
Are they based on roles or just by participation?
I would technically have roles, but most clubs at my school… more based on popularity… Im involved with them alot for the most part…

Its based on commitment and dedication. Most applicants who join a million groups just to put them on a resume get rejected because the Admin can see through applicants who pretend like they are committed to a cause. The ones that get accepted are the ones who truly are committed to something and their application simply reflects that.

If I do lots of competitions for the clubs (which I do) but dont get a role, would that look bad?
