Are extra curricular's related to your major important? Say I wanted to attend journalism school (Columbia Graduate, Mizzou, Syracuse, Cornell, etc.) and my extra curricular's involve writing and journalism. Write for this publication, been published here, president of school newspaper, went to this summer program for journalism. Does this help you or not? In other words do this make you look serious when you're applying to a school. I want to major in Journalism and i've done all these journalistic related extra curricular's. So yes or no?

Sometimes it matters more than other times. For the journalism major, I’d say it would be very helpful, if not extremely important. Columbia grad?? But you aren’t applying for grad school yet, right?

No. I’d study Creative Writing as an undergrad then move onto grad school Journalism. I have a few prose pieces I’ve written so that it helps me look good for creative writing
