ECs

I am a freshman at one of the top public high schools in California, where you can literally bump into six people and there is a good chance five of them will be a genius. But seriously, it has made me more obsessive than I already was.

I'm know what I like, so I'm not going to ask for a list of ECs that look good. But if someone could provide me with some advice on what I should focus on, or what opportunities are out there that I would be interested in it would be a huge help.

I love art and I'm taking Advanced Art 1 this year (I got to skip Art Foundations), but I'm going to take PE over the summer so I can do Speech and Debate over the year. I figure I can do art on my own, but I can't do Speech and Debate. Is this smart or does it look like I lack focus? Also, should I do art competitions (I will probably do them anyway for fun).

I also love writing, especially poetry. I might try the literary arts magazine. Again, would contests make a difference? Is there any other opportunities?

I love sports, but I never got good at any of them. Would it be okay if I didn't do any sports at school? I'm interested in dance, gymnastics, capoeira, swimming, and martial arts, none of which my school provides good programs of, if there are any at all. Should I choose one and pursue it for the rest of high school?

Finally, I am incredibly interested in things like peer counseling, medicine, architecture, and helping people in general. I would like to become a pediatric oncologist or neurologist in the future. I'm planning on trying for internships and volunteer work at local hospitals, but if there is anything else I could do I would like to know. Thanks!
