ECs

I am trying to make my Common App EC details as honest and reasonable as possible, and I have been struggling to count hours per week because some weeks are competition weeks and others are, well, not. All my ecs are for the whole school year, and to make it simple I am just trying to figure average work per day. My ECs tend to be research-heavy, and a lot of that research and organization is done at home. I am figuring an hour before school and two hours after school plus two extra hours twice a week for a service organization at which I volunteer. That is 17+25+4= 21. On weekends I am figuring 6 hours overall since some weekends are competition weekends out of town and others are a bit more relaxed in town or at home.

So overall, that ends up being 25 hours. Does that seems reasonable? I am trying to be truthful, and it is hard to count hours for some of my ecs.

Thanks for you opinions.

Don’t sweat over the exactness of your EC hours. The adcoms are just trying to figure out the magnitude of your involvement with listed ECs. Obviously, the more hours, the more dedicated your are to that EC.

Bump 10char

I agree… as long as the number doesn’t add to a ridiculous number of hours every week (obviously the admissions officers know you can’t be exact due to the changeable nature of club/activity schedules) you should be fine.

And 24-26 seems reasonable @carsondoor‌?

Depends… is this 24-26 every single week of the school year or are some weeks less heavy? This might be a little much for every week, but Common App also asks how many weeks per year you participate. So they probably won’t figure you do 24-26 every single week even if the activity is a year-round one. So I would assume you’re okay.
