ECs

hey i was wondering, how many ECs should you have on your college app.? In your opinon what would you consider the least amount and most for the ivy leagues? And also what ECs would be good for Politics and Business because those two areas really intersted me and i cant seem to find any Ecs for them. PLEASE RESPOND,and thank you in advance. =]

DECA is a good one.. that's all I know of for business though.
And as for how many EC's there should be for ivy, I don't think its the amount that matters; its the passion that you have for the subject. I would think higher of somebody that's very involved in 2-3 clubs than another person who has 6-7 but doesn't do anything.

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) is a very prominent business-oriented club. FBLA has competitive events as well. http://www.fbla-pbl.org/

Also, Model United Nations is good for politics.

Regarding extracurriculars, passion and focus are very important. However, I believe you could have a focus on a few topics throughout high school (a specific interest\passion) and explore other ECs that you might be interested in and you would be fine.

If you're a freshman/8th grader and still have time...Join a lot of things-then you can narrow...for example, I was "set" on a few clubs, and then on a whim decided to take Yearbook-which made my clubs about 5. Now, Yearbook is by far my favorite club and I've dropped the 2 that were very "name-only".

Just do what you like, make change or achieve something, and you're golden

So, I know this is an old post, but I just thought I could resurrect it. A really great activity is National History Day. If you are interested in history and writing, check out www.nhd.org. It's such a great program..

Oh, and btw, the theme this year is Triumph and Tragedy in History.

It doesn't really matter how many EC's you have. Just show an interest in a certain area.

For example if you like writing: join the journalism club, write for your local and school newspaper, win awards in newspaper/writing contests, etc.

Ha, how ironic, I went on this site to distract me from my National History Day project...

(it is a good program, though =). Just not when the due date is rapidly approaching and you still have 4/5 of your documentary to make... ohhh, procrastination...)
