Football, are you going out of the football team? Congrats on getting into the school I love!

Thanks SanfordDad! I thought about being a walk-on football player but I’m too small I am a 180lb DT lol I also played left guard on o-line

One of S’s friends from his h.s. team walked on a couple of years ago and said it was pretty brutal, esp. since walk-ons don’t usually get much, if any, playing time.

I was in Greenville this past weekend. Went shopping at UBE. It’s been remodeled and is a Pirate fan’s paradise.

Bigseegar & Dinara–sorry to hear about ECU. Where will you / DD be going in the fall? My daughter is a HS sr, she has a number of friends who did not get accepted to any college at all, including UNCG or Western. Seems this was a very difficult year for admissions to all schools. Congrats FootballPlayer61!

There’s always the Community College route.

another avenue would be starting at UNC Pembroke and transferring later.

Packmom, great idea. I hadn’t thought of Pembroke. Do you any recommendations on some of the smaller private colleges e.g. Mount Olive? The expense of those worry me but just checking options. Any and all advice is welcome. Thx

Pembroke is so much smaller than all the other state u’s that it’s more the size of a private. My neice grad. from UNC-P three years ago. Pembroke is kinda out in the boonies though.

NC Privates…Would you be interested in colleges only in eastern NC or anywhere in NC?

Meredith College (Raleigh)…all female but just down the road from NCSU so plenty of male presence around. Friend’s D is graduating from Meredith next month…really liked it.
Peace College (Raleigh)…also all female but literally a couple of blocks from NCSU

Barton College in Wilson…used to be called Atlantic Christian College until maybe the mid-80’s

Mt. Olive is a tiny sch. in a tiny town…think it might get old fast

Campbell College in Buies Creek (associated w/ the Baptist church)…also in the middle of nowhere but some kids like it. Neighbor’s kid loved it the first year but by the end of second year wanted out. She transferred to Guilford.

Further west…

Catawba College (Salisbury NC) Pretty campus in a cute town. I know someone who’s D loves it. S2’s friend went for a year and thought it too small and didn’t go back.

Pfieffer College…(Misenheimer NC) another middle of nowhere small sch. but obviously some like it.

Wingate University (Wingate NC) Two friends of mine have D’s at WU who are very happy. Not much in Wingate but Monroe is close by and freshmen can have cars.

Queens University of Charlotte… good small school in a beautiful part of Charlotte.

Packmom, wow, thank you! Great information. I’ll get busy and start calling. Did your niece like Pembroke?

NCMom, My neice’s situation was kind of unusual. A talented h.s. volleyball player, she wanted to go to a big school but only got v-ball scholarship offers from small schools (including UNC-P).
She decided to go to ECU and walk on. She got very little playing time even though she earned a scholarship by junior year. She was frustrated and really wanted to play (she hoped to get into coaching someday) so got in touch with the Pembroke coach who had offered her a scholarship when she was in h.s. He made her a good offer and she accepted. So she attended UNC-P and played v-ball there for her senior year only.
She didn’t live on campus. The v-ball players mostly lived together off campus.
She enjoyed her time there and didn’t regret going but as I said, it was not the typical
experience. She returned to ECU for grad. school.

other small NC privates…
Lenoir-Rhyne (Hickory)
Methodist College (Fayetteville)
Gardner-Webb University (Boiling Springs…near Shelby)
Mars Hill College (Mars Hill,mountains)
Lees-McCrae College (mountains)
Brevard College (Brevard,mountains)
Greensboro College (Greensboro)
High Point University (High Point…very pricey, not good merit aid)
Chowan College (Murfreesboro,NC…very small,rural)

Niece finally received acceptance letter this week-but has been so turned off by "no you’re denied-wait-we will defer you-now in mid -April-yes your in. So, her number one school has fallen from her list and I am sick about it. Instead, she is going to UNC-G,which is fine for some, but I lament the lack of a real college experience for her. Maybe she will try to transfer after the first year. A friend of her’s who is attends one of the “early college HS” in N.C. with NO AP’s, no calculus or even a SAT = 1300 got accepted at Wake and UNC-CH. To me, unbelievable. Congrats to all who were accepted and planning to attend.

So sorry your neice got turned off to ECU. She would have loved it. I hope it all works out well for her at UNCG.

My daughter applied to ECU and UNCC for engineering after she was turned down for ncsu and was accepted to both. Then one of her teachers said go to ECU it’s an amazing party school. Well it pretty much turned my daughter off and she accepted uncc but I wonder what kind of teachers our highschools are employing. I kinda liked ECU but hey I don’t know squat about colleges I went straight to the Army.

I attended both ECU and UNCC and would chose ECU over UNCC hands down. I’m sorry your D let a random comment by a h.s. teacher sway her decison. There’s plenty of partying at UNCC too ( I live nearby). Last year my friend’s S had his BMW stolen by other students at a crazy UNCC party, trashed and left in the middle of a soccer field on campus. The fact is that partying goes on at every school. You either participate or don’t.
Your D will prob. be fine at Charlotte but she can always transfer if it doesn’t work out for her. Best of luck to her.

I have sent in an application and am now waiting. ECU sent me a letter requesting that i take the SAT or ACT again, (i’m taking that as a good thing!) math-490 verbal-470. All honors classes and 2 AP classes. lots of community service. and unweighted GPA-2.83 weighted GPA-3.5. What do you think my chances are of getting accepted?

rwaters3, are you instate or out of state? With those numbers you will definitely find trouble if you’re out.

DD received her acceptance letter along with invitation to apply for Honors college @ ECU which is one of her safeties. May consider seriously if gets into the early assurance to the Med School. UW GPA 3.8, SAT Super Score 2215, ACT Composite 31 great ECs.

Good Luck to your D prdparent. I’m sure there is a lot of competition for the four Early Assurance scholarships. She will surely be competitive.

Hey guys! I got my acceptance letter to ECU on November 1st and I’m EXTREMELY excited because ECU was my #1 choice for College and I didn’t have very good stats, below average to be honest. I had a 2.9 unweighted and 3.2 weighted GPA and 1400 SAT score. I toured ECU last Friday and it has a VERY nice campus and can’t wait to attend there next fall. I don’t think I’ve ever been excited about learning until I got my acceptance letter a few weeks ago. Oh and btw, I plan to major in Computer Science. :D
