ECU Honors/ Essays

So I believe I have a chance at being asked to apply for the East Carolina Honors College. The admissions counselor I spoke to mentioned that once the process for applying to the Honors College began, test scores and GPAs were no longer in consideration. She mentioned it came down to essays and ECs. Is this true?

Also, how many students do they typically admit into the Honors College as freshmen each year?

I have never heard that GPA and test scores aren’t important. I guess most people that are invited to apply for HC have great test scores and GPA’s so the essays thin the herd in some way.

They have increased the HC recently, it was 100 students each year and 10 scholars but now I think they admit closer to 200 for HC.

ITBgirl is correct. We visited the HC and were told they were expanding the amount of people accepted to HC. They said there were two different levels of merit given through. I think it is still 100 students in HC that receive free tuition but the other 100 receive less than that. That was the only difference between the two though, both get preferred class registration status, ability to take the honors curricula and can live in the honors dorms. I don’t think the expanded the scholars program at all though.
