Ecu mt?

So I'm looking for schools with a good musical theatre program...of course I have my dream schools like Boston Conservatory and Cincinnati but I'm looking for some more realistic ones too. My friend told me that East Carolina University had a pretty good program, but I wanted other peoples thoguths...so what do you guys think?

I have heard really good things about ECU. I find that many students who audition for JMU where I teach also have ECU on their list of schools. I have met the head of the Musical Theatre program at conferences and he is top notch. They do have a pretty large general education requirement compared to some BFA programs with 42 credits of required general education (ie. math, science, english, etc...) courses out of 126 required credits for graduation with the degree. MT students may also seek admittance to the Professional Actor Training Program offered at ECU.

It appears that students have to pass an evaluation at the end of their freshman year to continue in the BFA program. From the ECU website:

BFA Musical Theatre Program Format

"Roughly 10-14 slots open up for the program each year for new freshmen or transfer students who have secured

I met the ECU MT director yesterday and he assured me it’s a great place for an MT person who is a strong dancer. The Dance program has many classes at many levels and the MT folks are welcome, if they are up to it.

Classicalbk – sorry I did not get a chance to run into you at the VTA conference this weekend. I am the SETC Screening Auditions Coordinator for VA, so spent my time with the college students auditioning to go to SETC. Hope that you D had a great time at the conference!

Kate- I saw you! You were on a mission I could see so I didn’t stop you. My D did the college “practice” audition event there which ended up being a very useful “dress rehearsal” and she was able to catch the end of your presentation - I’m sorry they scheduled her piano rehearsal during your time. I enjoyed speaking with many creative costume people from the various colleges before we had to dash of to Nutcracker rehearsal. It was a great conference. So much fun to be among theatre folk of all ages.
