Hey guys!

how are you guys doing?

Hello! You applied ED1?

I applied ED1… Still awaiting a decision… Do you think we’ll receive decisions next week?

I applied ED1 as well. Judging by the Pomona ED applicant thread from last year, West Coasters should receive decisions late next week and East Coasters a little closer to the 15th. Where are you from?

I applied ED1 too…what are y’alls stats (gpa, act/sats, extracurriculars, high school courses, and what did yall talk about in your essay?)

I’m a white male from Northern California. Really nervous about applying ED1. Does anyone know how many applicants they had this year? Also, do we know when they will be mailing out the letters? Since the 15th is a Sunday, I’m hoping we can find out by Saturday.

Found this on an old thread. Whoever wants to post decisions when they come in the mail can do so using this format!

do u guys know the acceptance rate for ED2 last year?

Do you know how much of a disadvantage not doing an interview would be for ED1? I kinda forgot…

I don’t know for ED2, but for last year ed1 was 20 %

I’m an international applicant and I applied ED as well… last week, Pomona requested my senior quarter grade from my counselor. Has anyone received similar request from the admissions office? I mean, my grades are not that good this quarter… I’m currently taking 3 APs (AP Euro, Lang, comp gov) and a college course (multivariable calculus) plus some electives (which are graded harder than APs…). I’m maintaing 4As and 2Bs. I’m pretty sure that I can raise all my grades up to A by the end of the semester but anyway, my counselor already sent in my grades to Pomona… do you think my senior quarter grades can hurt my chance?

@seniorhighschool: source, please?

Derived from a NYT article about ED1 admissions and the latest CDS from Pomona for overall ED admissions, in fall 2013 79 of 298 ED1s were admitted (26.5%); 74 of 471 ED2s got in (15.7%); and 843 of 6384 were admitted RD (13.2%), for an overall 13.9% rate.

i am not sure how credible this site is but here it is [Pomona College Admissions Information - CollegeData College Profile](Pomona College Acceptance Rate | CollegeData)

it also says early decision overall, not ed1 and ed2 separately so im not sure how they got that number

@hambird it depends on where you live. if you live in southern cali then its probably not a good thing, but I live in texas and it was a little hard to find an alumni in my area, but there was one, whom i interviewed with. I dont think it can hurt you, only help you!

Hey guys! I’m a freshman at Pomona right now (EDII last year), and I do know (no percentages, unfortunately; I’ve forgotten them by now) that you have a higher chance of admission as an Early Decision applicant-- or at least, we did. The letters also go out much earlier than the 15th (I believe I got mine on the 9th of February, if I remember correctly, but it was supposed to be the 15th as well). They’ll arrive sooner the closer you live to the college. I think they might already be sent out (I’m working on a Bio paper but I’ll try to run by admissions later and ask). Not interviewing really isn’t a big deal. It’s absolutely optional, almost like a supplement. It makes your application stronger, but not having interviewed honestly makes little to no difference in the end.

@seya1214: those grades won’t hurt your chances at all. (Many who are here had far worse grades on their official transcripts.) If for some reason you aren’t accepted, know it wasn’t because of this. They most likely requested your grades because you’re international-- there are very very many international students here, but from what I understand that process is far more selective than the domestic process. They tend to cover bases more thoroughly.

@latingeek12: there are far more white males here than you’d think. Also many from NorCal. Your chances are just as good as anybody else’s, trust me.

The funny thing about the Pomona admissions process is that they look for well-rounded students above absolutely everything else. You have to have demonstrated excellence in many different areas, because you’ll only be accepted if the college is absolutely sure you could come here and thrive in literally any major. (My advisor is on this year’s admissions panel, and was a few years ago as well. This info comes directly from her.) And essays, in terms of both original content and form, make a huge difference-- we’ve all read each other’s admissions papers, and we peer edit all the time, and absolutely everyone here is a highly competent writer. No exceptions.

I think that’s all I have to say. Let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck to you all! If you get in and decide to stay over as a prospie, mention that you’d like to stay in Wig 1 or 2! I (and all of us, of course) would love to meet you.

Thanks a lot for the info, firstfeathers. Let us know about whether the letters have been sent out if you have time!

nice of you to post, firstfeathers. thank you.

I’m worried about the mixed information I’m getting about when the letters will arrive. Several sources have said that they got their letters early, while a handful said they came a few days late. Another thread on here said that the office promised to send them out by this Friday, BUT they also said to expect them BY December 15. In that case, sending them out on Friday would be too late.

Anybody gutsy enough to post on their FB page???
BTW, ejo591, when you say “they got their letters early” you don’t mean this year, right?
