You need to decide what you really want to study. You are unlikely to write a convincing “why NYU” essay if (for example, I may be projecting from what others have tried to strategize doing!) you are applying history to CAS when you are really hoping to get into Stern through the backdoor of an internal transfer. To be blunt - your GPA is somewhat low for both schools, and your SAT is a bit on the low side too, so you’ll need a strong essay and recommendations to try offset those.
What would you consider a solid GPA/SAT for CAS at NYU. I was initially interested in history actually, however recently I gained an interest in the 2008 recession, and I wanted to continue that interest into college. But I’m totally fine with being a history major.
Average unweighted gpa of first years (class of 2022, not newest class) at NYU is 3.7. Middle 50 SAT was 1350-1530. https://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/nyu-facts.html
The median SAT for admitted students (not enrolled, but admitted is what matters if you’re looking for an offer) for the class of 2023 was 1480. The admit rate dropped quite a bit so one can assume all overall stats were stronger than class of 2022. https://www.nyu.edu/about/news-publications/news/2019/march/Class_of_2023_Admits.html
So those are the kind of numbers you’re looking to compare to, I would think the overall NYU data are not too far from CAS stats; Stern (admit rate of I think 7% last year) would be higher. You can also look through last year’s thread to see what kind of stats people posted (there was lots of activity in the ED thread). There is a clear advantage to applying ED at NYU assuming the finances work for you.
@PLZSTERN2024 … you have a very good EC … However, your SAT or GPA can be on the low side for Stern. You need to write a strong essay to highlight your business & EC background to impress the admission officer to offset your low scores on your GPA/SAT scores.
