ED 2 vs. RD?

American is definitely my top choice, though I’d need money to go there. I really want to show interest, though if I do not get money I can’t go there, and I am pretty sure with ED 2 there is no way I can know if I will get money, correct? I’m filling out all the possible essays for scholarships available through the common app, I’ve been emailing my areas rep, and visited the campus.(I’m from SF too) My weighted GPA is a 3.43 and I am applying test optional. I am really hoping my co-curricular activities will have a heavy impact on my app. I played football and rowed for three years of high school and been on student council for a year. I do a lot of community service and am heavily involved in school spirit and admissions. My grades aren’t the best, though I have taken 6 non regular level classes, and I am expecting good recommendations. All this information probably wasn’t necessary, I’m just getting very nervous. And remember the money is really a deciding factor for me, so does anyone think I will get some money applying ED 2? Or should I just go regular decision?

I think you probably will get money. I think AU is flexible with ED so if you don’t get money you can opt out.

I was accepted ED1 and my grades weren’t very good but my extracurriculars and the interest I showed helped a lot. Also make sure to get a lot of feedback on your essays from teachers/friends because the essays also matter a lot.

DCnative14, I was accepted ED1 also, did you get any money, in your acceptance packet?
Thanks
Sam

I got a Financial Aid Reward from AU.

I have no idea of how much money you need to make AU work, but know that they do not promise to meet 100% of need. Based on your grades and if you apply test optional, it is not likely that you will be offered merit aid (but also, not impossible). You can estimate need based aid with the fafsa estimator. Until you fill out fafsa and the profile you will not know for sure how much need based aid is offered. Knowing all of that, use your one ED application wisely. It does give you a advantage in acceptance but not in $$ offered. I hope that this helps. Good luck.

Thanks guys! The money I need is not outstanding, my parents are now just really pushing LaSalle University because they’ve put forward a good sum of money for me next year. Though American remains my number 1. Congrats to all those already admitted, and thanks for the help and recommendations!

Good luck!

Thank you!!
